Some lovely covers coming down the pike these days. So let's share.
Kevin Drew covers New Order!
The erstwhile Broken Social Scene frontman does a tear-drenched, piano-only cover of a haunting New Order classic. (As Tye the Secret Square put it after hearing this, "Hold me!")
"Age of Consent" (MP3)
Radiohead covers The Smiths!
Great guitar coverage and some breaks for (semi-inappropriate) laughter make this Radiohead one-off worth a listen (and a watch).
"The Headmaster Ritual" (MP3)
Cat Power covers herself!
It certainly sounds like a Dylan cover, but this is just a reworked version of an older Chan Marshal composition.
"Song to Bobby" (MP3)

Los Gauchos de Acero

Now I know Los Gauchos De Acero ("The Steel Gauchos") aren't the newest thing on the Interwebs, but... well they are to me. They're basically three little badasses from Argentina who shred most metalically. Perhaps it's best if you see for yourself. Please note the bunk beds in the band's "practice space."
The introduction of a guest singer in this clip is a welcome surprise. She is, as far as I can tell, the heir apparent to Ozzy's throne. This time, check out the bassist's Pikachu microphone. Now that is metal.
Newest "guilty pleasure" movie: Mr. Brooks, which stars the (deservedly) much-reviled Kevin Costner as a remorseful thrill-killer who talks to an imaginary William Hurt. It also features Demi Moore, Marg Helgenberger, and Dane Cook in its menagerie of has-beens. It's weirdly entertaining nonetheless. Costner sure isn't as pretty as he was when he made this commercial...
Uh... in the days before caller ID, no one, especially not important business people, answered the phone with "Hi."
Also caught the excellent Gone Baby Gone, which featured Morgan Freeman as, well, Morgan Freeman. Let's face it, he's played the same role for as long as most of us can remember. Luckily, evidence of God's lighter side does exist...

Holy Hot-Buttered Jesus
This little girl is the cutest/most terrifying thing on earth. I don't even have words. (Warning: NSFL [Not Safe for Lunch])

Discount Retread: NBC Revives Knight Rider

Anyone in the market for a certified pre-owned talking car? Hot on the heels of the Battlestar Galactica and Bionic Woman revamps, NBC is breaking out the jumper cables for the Knight Rider "franchise" with an upcoming TV movie (with the potential to be picked up as a series). 28-year-old soap veteran Justin Bruening will star as the son of Michael Night, the hairy chested, leather-clad crime fighter immortalized by David Hasselhoff in the original series. No word as yet regarding Hoff cameos, but it seems likely as he currently stars on NBC's America's Got Talent.

Rumored to be among the features of the new-and-improved KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand) car are a state-of-the-art irony detection system; a booming hi-fi that still plays only cover songs performed by Hasselhoff; and a wackier, bitchier, even more effeminate personality, featuring the voice talent of Andy Dick.
